Opsgenie
Freesbe takes alerts from Opsgenie. Once an admin connects it:
- Each alert posts into the channel you pick as one card, with its severity, message, entity, description, number, priority, team and tags.
- The card keeps up with Opsgenie. Acknowledgements, notes, new owners and priority changes change the same card, and when the alert is closed it turns green and says how long it was open. A reply under it lets everyone following the thread know.
- Acknowledge and Close on the card act in Opsgenie, saying who pressed them, when you give Freesbe an API key.
- A live problems board pinned in the channel lists every open alert, worst first, and reports post on their own every morning or every Monday.
Alerts post as their own member, Opsgenie, so their cards are easy to tell apart from people.
Connect Opsgenie
Section titled “Connect Opsgenie”Only owners and admins can connect it. You need an Opsgenie admin (or a team admin, to connect a team’s alerts).
- Open Workspace settings → Integrations & apps → Integrations → Monitoring and click Connect under Opsgenie.
- Give the connection a name, like Opsgenie: storefront, and pick the channel it posts to.
- Pick which alerts to post under Alerts to post (see Severities).
- Fill in Opsgenie address, where you open Opsgenie (like
https://northwind.app.opsgenie.com), so cards link to each alert. For the Acknowledge and Close buttons, also paste an API token (see Acknowledge and close from the card). - Click Connect Opsgenie. Freesbe shows the Freesbe URL that Opsgenie sends alerts to. Copy it now: it’s only shown once.
Then, in Opsgenie:
- Open Settings → Integrations (or a team’s Integrations tab, for only that team’s alerts), click Add integration and pick Webhook.
- Paste the Freesbe URL in Webhook URL, and keep Add Alert Description to Payload on.
- Under Alert actions, tick when an alert is created, acknowledged, closed, and a note is added. Add owner assigned and priority changed too, if you’d like the card to show them.
- Click Save Integration, then Turn on integration. The next alert posts a card.
Severities
Section titled “Severities”Every Opsgenie alert has a priority, P3 unless whoever sends it says otherwise:
| Priority | On the card | Icon |
|---|---|---|
| P1 | Critical | 🚨 |
| P2 | High | 🔴 |
| P3 | Minor | 🟠 |
| P4 | Warning | 🟡 |
| P5 | Info | 🔵 |
Alerts to post leaves out alerts below the severity you pick. When someone changes an alert’s priority later, its card changes severity too.
Acknowledge and close from the card
Section titled “Acknowledge and close from the card”With an API key, everyone in the channel can press Acknowledge on an open alert and Close on one that isn’t closed yet. Opsgenie applies it a moment later, with the person’s name as the user and Freesbe as the source, so the alert’s log says who did it.
To get a key, open Settings → Integrations in Opsgenie, add an API integration, and give it Read, Create and Update access. Copy its API Key and paste it in API token in the connection’s settings. Freesbe checks the key before saving it, and keeps it encrypted.
The board and reports
Section titled “The board and reports”Like Zabbix, each connection pins a live problems board in its channel, listing the open alerts, worst first, with how long and who acknowledged them. Turn it off with Pin a live problems board in the connection’s settings.
Reports count the alerts Freesbe got over the last day or week: by severity, still open, total time open, the typical time to close, the noisiest alerts and the busiest entities. See The live problems board and Reports for more.
Questions
Section titled “Questions”Does Freesbe notify people on call? No. Opsgenie still notifies whoever is on call; Freesbe shows the whole team what’s going on.
Who can see the cards? Everyone in the channel. Use a private channel for alerts only some people should see.
Is the URL a secret? Yes: anyone with it can post alerts into the channel. If it leaks, delete the connection and connect again for a new URL.
Can different teams’ alerts go to different channels? Yes. Connect Opsgenie once per channel, and add the Webhook integration to each team in Opsgenie with its own URL.
